Family Academic Resources

Due to COVID-19, in-person programming for the Boys & Girls Club of TRACEN Petaluma is currently limited to essential childcare services. However, we are still here to support all of our children and families through these uncertain times. 

Below are a variety of resources for e-learning, homeschooling, and more:

Tutors

Tutors

A variety of tutors on board TRACEN Petaluma are available to help our families navigate distance learning and home schooling. Participating families are required to follow these policies:

OVERALL POLICY

  • Notify tutor that you are an MWR patron assigned to or living on board Training Center Petaluma

  • First meeting must occur in a virtual environment (ie: ZOOM, Skype, FaceTime, etc)

POLICY FOR IN-PERSON MEETINGS

  • Book your space at the Teen Center BEFORE coming to the facility

  • First meeting must occur in a virtual environment (ie: ZOOM, Skype, FaceTime, etc).

  • In person tutoring will occur during the scheduled hours of the kids camp (0730‐1600, M‐F).

  • In person tutoring may only occur at the Youth and Teen Center.

  • Parent of child being tutored must be in attendance.

  • Face coverings must be worn by all parties at all times.

  • 6 foot distance must be maintained at all times.

  • Each person will be responsible for the sanitation of their area before and after the tutoring session.

  • No sharing of supplies.

  • Sign in and sign out with the Kids camp staff.

  • 1 student and 1 tutor, no group tutoring sessions are authorized.

  • Temperature and COVID questionnaire will be completed prior to admittance to teen center, all persons must be in compliance. Any temperature above 100.4 will be cause for non admittance.

    Free math resource! Video tutorials are available for every grade.

     

  • 4-H Space STEM Camp
    Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service and Texas 4-H are hosting a free virtual 4-H Space STEM Camp. All the experiments and videos are available until the end of May. 
     

  • Games That Help Kids Think Critically
    A list of games that are designed to encourage kids to look outside of "right" and "wrong" answers and "encourage them to experiment and consider the shades of gray in problems."

     

  • Google Arts & Culture
    An online platform through which the public can view and interact with high-resolution images and videos of artworks and cultural artifacts from partner cultural organizations throughout the world.

     

  • NRICH
    Robust math problems for all ages, with teaching support.

     

  • Scratch - Programming
    Programming for ages 8-16.

     

  • Smithsonian Learning Lab
    On the Learning Lab, educators have access to millions of digital resources from across the Smithsonian's museums, research centers, libraries, archives, and more. You will also find pre-packaged collections that contain lessons, activities, and recommended resources made by Smithsonian museum educators as well as thousands of classroom teachers.

     

  • CrashCourse
    This YouTube channel, created by John Green, provides crash courses in physics, philosophy, games, economics, U.S. government and politics, astronomy, anatomy & physiology, world history, computer science, biology, literature, ecology, chemistry, psychology, U.S. history and more.​

     

  • Google Lit Trips
    Free downloadable files that mark the journeys of characters from famous literature on the surface of Google Earth.

  • Early Learning Lab - Play Stay Grow
    A free app designed to support parents and caregivers during the coronavirus outbreak and beyond. The app is a one-stop source of quality resources.

     

  • Prodigy
    An engaging, curriculum-aligned math platform for students and teachers from 1st – 8th grade. The platform encourages self-paced math practice for both in and out of school that is leveled based on your students progress
